The author of the reading describes three benefits related to these cars. The professor casts doubt on each of the theories presented in the reading. He does not feel that the cars are as beneficial as the author assumes. First of all, the author states that smart cars will save lives by preventing accidents. It is noted that that the sensor s and computer systems used in the smart cars are more efficient than human judgment when it comes to preventing accidents. The lecturer casts doubt on this assertion. He is of the opinion that smart cars will still get into accidents. Moreover, he believes that if smart car technology leads to denser traffic than before, certain types of accidents will be even worse than they currently are. Secondly, the author claims that smart cars will lead to the end of traffic problems. The article says that this will result from the fact that smart cars can follow each other closely at higher speeds than regular cars. The lecturer challenges this theory. He states that if driving becomes more convenient, more people will opt to join in. He says that with an increased number of cars on the road, traffic congestion will actually increase. Finally, the author points out that smart cars will reduce the cost of driving. They let the audience in on their plan to meet some guy name Macbeth. He’s prancing home on a dark and stormy night after defending King Duncan in battle with some skilled enemy-disemboweling. Understandably, he’s feeling pretty good about himself. The witches then call out to Graymalkin and Paddock, or spirits that serve the witches. All three witches start to say, â€Å"Fair is foul and foul is fair†(line10-11) before going back about their business. Just then, him and his good friend Banquo run into three bearded witches who rhymingly prophesy that Macbeth will be named Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. Just as Banquo is curious about his knowing what he will become. And then they begin to say â€Å"lesser than Macbeth and greater but not so much happy, yet much happier thou shalt get kings. Though thou be none†. (line 65-68) And what they mean by that is he will be fortunate than Macbeth and be father to a long line of future kings of Scotland though he will not be king himself. The next thing we know, a guy named Ross shows up to say that, since the old Thane of Cawdor turned out to be a traitor and is about to have his head chopped off and displayed on a pike, so Macbeth gets to take his place as Thane of Cawdor then that takes care of the first prophecy. His ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth, prods him into acting like a man and killing King Duncan when the poor guy comes to Macbeth’s castle for a friendly visit. When Macduff finds the king’s dead body, Macbeth kills the guards and conveniently accuses them of murdering the king. King Duncan’s two sons, Donalbain and Malcolm, find out what happened, then they ends up leaving out of Scotland so they can’t be murdered too. Macbeth is now named king of Scotland. Now Macbeth starts to worry about the witch’s prophecy that Banquo’s heirs will be kings. Macbeth’s not about to let someone throw him off the throne so, he hires some hit-men name Fleance to take care of Banquo and his son. Banquo is murdered, but Fleance escapes. As Banquo and Fleance live, his mind is full of scorpions. Lady Macbeth states that everybody dies, which may be a warning to Macbeth to cool it, or may be a self-reassurance that everyone has to go sometime, so her husband might as well murder their friend and his kid. At a park near the palace, the two murderers are joined by a third. Only a bit of light remains in the sky. Banquo and Fleance approach on horseback and dismount to walk the mile to the palace, as usual. Banquo starts up with a friendly conversation and is promptly stabbed. While being stabbed, he encourages Fleance to run away and eventually take revenge. In the meantime, the torch has gone out, and Fleance takes advantage of the darkness to escape. Penny Brewer English 6 Our Town The play Our Town was written by Thornton Wilder in 1938. This play was a huge part of Wilder's success. I believe his purpose for this play is to show us the simple things in life we often overlook. The play is to show you how important it is to have love in your life, plus the meaning and beauty of it all. The story takes place in Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, over a twelve-year span. The characters in the play go about as if it truly were a scripted play. There is no excitement or adventure. I think that Wilder's purpose for that was to show the importance of finding value in even the smallest events in our lives. Act I is called "The Daily Life." This act begins by showing you what is taking place in the homes of the Gibbs family and the Webb family. It gives you a general idea of the characters and where they stand in the play. This act, however, is dedicated to the love of daily family life. Like all the acts, it's based around love. Act II, "Love and Marriage," takes place three years after the end of the first act. This act is based on the romantic type of love between George Gibbs and Emily Webb, mostly focusing on the hard times and heartaches that are associated with being in love. After all the talk of calling the wedding off, George and Emily wed at the end of act two. Act III takes place nine years later and is called "Life After Death". In this act, we come to find out how many people have died since the last act, including the following: Emily Webb, Wally Webb, Mrs. Gibbs, Simon Stimson, and Mrs. Soames. In this act, the love shown is in an unusual way, an unselfish way. It shows you that the most important love is the love for everything around you no matter how unimportant it really is. I believe that Our Town had a good message because people take advantage of the ordinary by always hoping for the extraordinary. Our hope, and our despair are what we make of them, and only we have the power to change them. The scenery around us is not important; you should live life to the fullest as much as possible. You should always appreciate life, for most people do not. Others do, but not enough to really to understand that they shouldn't let life pass them by because who knows; this might be your only shot at it. I see Our Town as a celebration of daily life not as a sad sentimental play. I think Wilder means that the cause of people's unhappiness is not the failure to acheive good things but the failure to appreciate the beauty of daily life, no matter how plain or ordinary. I believe this is the understanding that he wanted to have after reading his play. The characters of this play interesting but not much. I believe the hardest part was trying to follow the stage manager. Especially when not actually seeing the play, it was hard to know where he was or what he was doing. As for the other characters, they were a little easier to understand, such as the Gibbs family and the Webb family. I also believe that some of the family members from each family weren't even needed. In closing, I would like to say that this was a great play once you get through some of the problems. The impression it left on me was, that when searching for love, make sure it's a total love-love for yourself, love for others and love for life in general.
